Growing up as a Black Country lad, Brian was well positioned for a career in Metallurgy and Iron foundries, and enjoyed working in various engineering jobs.
However, an adventure was on the horizon, and he moved to the United States – for 30 years, doing everything from Country Club cooking to Audio/Visual work at a large Texas museum.
Upon returning to Stourport for retirement, he volunteered at Severn Valley Railway for a number of years, and then, on one Carnival Day in Stourport: “fell in with a bunch of ruffians, and when they had dragged me onto their narrowboat because I was wearing a flat cap, I was “volunteered”!!, and the best times of my life had begun!”
“I feel immensely privileged to work with a great bunch of other volunteers from all walks of life, each having unique skills, stories, and abilities. Working on Bramble to help keep up the maintenance and appearance of the boat is very satisfying, and then, the ultimate reward is to operate the boat and share the experience with the public. People are always smiling when they see a beautiful narrowboat cruise gently by.”
