A Family and Audio Self-Guided Trails

Boat-going-through-narrow-lock-to-Severn

We are extremely excited to be working with Red Kite to produce and install a self-guided family friendly and audio trail around the Upper and Lower Basin areas in The Tontine Gardens. The family trail will include contemporary and historic images, I-Spy and quiz activities, and photo “selfie” opportunities.  Bespoke characters will be developed to interpret the trail to engage our younger audiences.

The audio descriptive trail will be carefully developed by working with two visually impaired interpretive experts. It will be accessible to a wide audience including visually impaired visitors, visitors who find reading difficult or simply prefer to learn audibly and visitors with learning difficulties.  A narrator and a selection of local people will talk about the Basins and the features that make Stourport unique and special. The audio trail will also include sensory experiences, adding wellbeing benefits for all participants.

Through this project we are aiming to breathe new life into the basin area and turn it into a destination of its own right within Stourport. New interpretation panels and seating will also be installed to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

Throughout August and September, we will be trailing (soft launch) the route and panels and welcoming feedback with the final installation and a formal unveiling to take place in October 2025 in time for the half-term holiday.

We are truly grateful to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for this opportunity and thank them and the players for making this project possible.
