The Old Ticket Office is located on York Street, Stourport. It was built circa 1901 and is a small building (10ft square) on York Street. At one time it was the office of coal merchant John William Powell.
Coal wharves were important to Stourport, as they were places where one of the most important cargoes to the town were trans-shipped (unloaded and re-loaded onto riverboats). The Old Ticket Office offers a great view over the basins. It is now a mini museum and home to artefacts related to Stourport’s past, including a model Trow, (flat-bottomed boats that worked on the river here in years gone by).
The Ticket Office if usually opened once a month on a Tuesday morning. Please see our facebook page for up to date details (opens in a new tab).
Both heritage buildings are Grade II listed and all three assets play a vital role in educating the local community, visitors, schools and expert historical groups.
